"I'm in the boat repair business and pride myself with the ability to set a boat up correctly. However, there comes a point where the boat needs more help to perform correctly than just the boat being set up and dialed in. Generally the only way to get that little extra edge is to have your propeller modified.

After re powering my Champion 203 with a Mercury 225 Pro XS, it was still not performing exactly as it should. I tried eight or ten different props and finally found which factory prop ran the best overall.

I then sent the prop to Steve at Steve's Custom Props. He immediately found that the one blade was 1/4 of a pitch off from the Factory! He then customized the prop and put his magic touch to it.

All I can say is WOW. I got four to five more miles per hour, the hole shot is the best it has EVER been, and the midrange turning and handling is completely different! The boat had good bow lift before, but now it is incredible!

Having used many different Prop Shops over the years. There was one thing that made Steve's work stand apart. Most customers probably would not even notice this, but when the prop came back, it was polished and didn't have any grinding marks or other blemishes that many of the other shops don't take the time to correct. That impressed me as much as the performance difference!

If you want one of the best in the business to repair your prop, add more cup, or completely customize your prop, Steve is the guy to call!

Just wanted to drop you a line and comment to you that the repair you did on my prop for my Yamaha Pro-V a couple of weeks ago was just what the doctor ordered. Although the boat is a 1986, it has always seemed to run better than most newer boats, and now it performs better than a lot of 2006 models.

As a businessman, I am sure that you know the best advertisement you can get is satisfied customers and word of mouth. as you came highly recommended to me, I will be sure to continue this positive networking for you, and will not hesitate to contact you in the future should I have another unfortunate incident and "ding" up my prop again.

Thanks again for your help.

I have known Steve for almost 7 years now and I have always experienced professional service when I went to see Steve. He would usually get my work back to me in a very timely manner with me being able to wait  while he fixed it or to pick up my items later in the day on many occasions. I had Steve install my Dual Bank battery charger and was very pleased with the charger looking like it was installed at the factory. In no way have I ever been displeased with anything that Steve has done on my boat.

I highly recommend Steve to any of my friends or anyone that visits my web site.

Steve,

The prop was on my desk when I got in this AM. All I can say is WOW. I will assure I have never gotten this quality of work on a prop repair and I have had a few done here in DFW. You probably know where.

Your check is in the mail.

I am excited to see what difference it makes.

I already made a big difference by raising the motor as you suggested. I am surprised though that raising the motor nearly 4 inches to get to 3 did not cost me any hole shot at all. In fact my hole shot may even be a little better now.

I will spread the word around my bass club about you and your business. I can't see any reason for me to ever go anywhere else.

I just caught this post thread I started a couple of years ago, thought I needed to provide an update as it seemed to result in a hammering of Ron Hill props.

Last summer I bought a used prop off the internet from a guy who said it was a Ron Hill prop but it had been modified by Steve at www.stevescustomprops.com . I was a little hesitant as my history with Ron's props was a hit or miss one. Since the prop was a four blade over the hub in a 14.5x30 which was what I needed and only cost shipped about $275 I decided to give it a shot.

Prop was a satin finish what Steve called an Eagle cut. It was thinned and very light but consistant in every way. I ran the thing and was amazed, good hole shot great mid, and on my 21 Skater with a PM 300 allowed me for the first time with this package to break 100mph.

To top it off it ran smooth as silk. I ran it high and hard for about a season and finally I cracked a blade, to be expected from any thined prop run very high and hard. I did not throw a blade which is important to mention as I have heard many rumors of welded on blades on Ron's props. If they are welded you can't tell and it is a first rate weld job as mine cracked did not throw a blade.

I went back to Steve to try to find another Eagle cut prop to find he no longer does the Eagle cut but another called the Predator in a 4-blade which is another ET variation with more blade area and a bit less bend than the Eagle. I bought one and it also comes from Ron Hill and after Steve is done it is a work of art.

Steve balances and blueprints them after he does his cut then he sends them out to be heat treated for strength. Though I have only run the Predator once I think I like it even better than the Eagle cut it has more lift and carries a load alot better, blades are much thicker and has a better hole shot, equally good mid and a top end that is only 1 mph slower than the Eagle but I bet it will last longer than me.

Also on both props the Flo-torque hub was a fairly good fit in the props. His Predator props come balanced, blueprinted, and highly polished for about the same as you can get a stock satin finish Merc Pro ET 4 blade from Jaco's which is very reasonable.

If you want them heat treated there is an additional charge after which they can only come in a satin finish. Steve is a great guy and will do about anything to make sure the customer is happy very much along the Eric Simon lines. So for those of you who like Ron's props and low price but can't live with some of the inconsistancies give Steve a try you won't be sorry.
