September Propeller Tips
Ahh, Good ole summer is ending. School is starting back up, and times are getting tough. Fuel prices are up, and our house payments just keep going higher.
But, with September brings the start of fall bass fishing. Most tournaments are starting back up and the need for a properly tuned propeller is increasing.
It’s still hot outside in most parts of the world, so don’t expect to see those higher rpms and speeds you had last spring. The need for a second propeller is a must this time of year. A good choice would be a propeller with 2 degrees less pitch than your primary propeller. A lot of guys also choose a 4 blade to go with their 3 blade, fast prop. The propeller with less pitch will allow your boat to get onto plane faster and the engine rpms will increase as well. You will not run faster because of the less pitch but the engine will be much happier, and most importantly you’ll save on fuel consumption.
Fine tuning a back up propeller is a must as well. Just because it’s slower doesn’t mean it’s not important. Four blade props will offer the summer time boater more consistent speeds throughout the heat and load changes that the typical bass fisherman will put his or her boat through.
Choosing the right 4 blade can be a bit difficult. Consult with your local propeller shop and work with them to test several if possible.
